Board & Trains are sought after for a variety of reasons although typically most people really enjoy having a dog that already has a foundation of obedience and understanding of how to communicate in place before they begin Training with the Dog themselves. This makes the transition to the handler/owner much easier. Although keep in Mind, a Board & Train will require us to Train you so you can maintain what your dog has learned. Much like a gym, if you don't maintain it, all your hard work will go to waste and bad habits will slowly come back.
We understand it is a big decision to leave your dog anywhere let alone with people you do not know. We highly recommend and typically require clients schedule a Free Consultation if you are interested in the Board & Train Program. Meet and have a conversation with the person Training your dog, discuss your goals and learn about their methods and how they will train your dog. In addition, you should Tour the Facilities, Learn about the procedures and how your dog will be cared for outside of their time Training with their Trainer.
K9 Tailshakers Board & Train Program will require your dog to stay at our facility for the duration of their Training. During this time your dog will be well cared for by our Award-Winning Team. Our Experienced and Educated K9 Care Specialists will be tracking your dog's weight, what and how much they eat/drink, stool/urine and our top-notch Customer Service-Reps will notify you of anything out of the ordinary immediately. If approved by your trainer, your dog can add on additional activities or private play time.
Your dog will be working exclusively with their very own designated Trainer. Your Trainer will spend an average of a full hour a day working with your dog. Our K9 Care Specialists will look over your dog & track their eating, weight and health while in our care.
While your dog may be trained, we also need to train you. Depending on the Length of your Program will determine the number of lessons included. You will also receive discounted lessons in the future if you choose to have more.
When your dog has completed the Board & Train and you have completed your lessons you will have access to a class to continue to practice your handling skills.
Please reach us at Inbox@k9tailshakers.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The price of the Board & Train is determined by the length of time you and your Trainer decide your dog should stay. Typically, a dog will stay 2 or 3 weeks. The cost is between $3200 & $4100. Interest Free In-House Financing is Available for a one time set up fee of $50.
A Free Consultation is highly recommended and sometimes required to discuss your Board & Train and your Training Goals, at this time you can discuss any concerns & tour the facility before making any commitments. We want to make sure you & your Trainer are on the same page & you are comfortable with our facility.
Your dog will have their own Kennel. We do not board dogs together unless they are in the same family. Our Kennel is fully heated and air conditioned with Ecobee T-Stat monitoring which will notify us of any temperature changes. We also have several security cameras throughout our kennel as well. The Kennel is separate, keeping it calm and away from everyday events and services.
We require your dog to remain on the same diet they have been on at home while they are with us. Please do not change your dog's food or add new treats prior to boarding. We monitor your dog's stool and sometimes a change in food can cause loose stool. This can make it difficult to determine if loose stool is from anxiety or an underlying health problem.
Please pre-bag all food per feeding. I.e., If your dog eats 2 Cups AM and 2 Cups PM there should be two bags per day. We accommodate all diets and have freezers and refrigerators to hold any types of food. Please, DO NOT put your dog's medication in your dog's food. If your dog has food allergies or a specialty diet, please let the office know and indicate what specialty food your dog is eating and what food allergies your dog has on your registration form. We do offer facility food for a fee although we recommend keeping your dog on their regular food while boarding to prevent loose stool. Please do not change your dog's food prior to boarding.
You can bring a blanket or bed, providing your dog will not ingest anything. We do provide cots in each kennel and a stainless-steel bucket for water. You do not need to bring your dog's food or water dishes unless your dog is eating out of a slow feeder.
Medication must be in original container clearly marked with instructions. Note: We do not take in dog's that require injectable medication. Please note, dogs are not allowed in the facility with contagious illness within the last 30 days.
Your dog will go potty 6 time per day or more as they also go out when they are with their Trainer.
Most Training Sessions are no more than an hour a day, sometimes split in two. Please note, many people do not understand why it is only an hour: Training any longer can cause a great deal of frustration & stress for your dog. Allowing your dog to rest after a Training Session/s and process the information they just received sets your dog up for a healthier and less frustrating Board & Train. An hour a day is more than plenty for your dog to learn. Having the dog Board & Train can help reset thinking for both the parent and the dog.
Sit, down, stay, come, heel, place and manners. Many of these obedience skills will play a vital role in fixing behavioral problems.
Your dog will be provided with a cot (provided they are not chewers.) Please indicate if your dog is a chewer on the Registration Form. We also provide water & feeding bowls. If you would like to bring a small blanket or old t-shirt with your dog, you are more than welcome. Please do not bring anything of value or anything you will be upset about if lost or destroyed.
Vaccinations must be submitted on Veterinarian Letterhead or Receipt with Veterinarian Information on it. No handwritten paperwork. A Negative Fecal and Bordetella within 6 months along with current Rabies and Distemper Combo. Please be sure vaccinations are administered 72 hours prior to Boarding.
Any additional Vaccinations should be determined between you and your Veterinarian. Please let your Veterinarian know your Dog will be utilizing our Services & what your lifestyle is like. For example: If you hike with your dog, your dog swims in lakes or streams, runs in fields, goes to groomers, dog parks etc. This will help them determine the best vaccinations needed to keep your dog safe.
We offer Boarding in our Kennel and/or Crate Areas. Our Kennels range from
9L X 9W X 6H to 6L x 6.5W x 5.25H. Our Crates range from XS Chihuahua Sized to XXL Great Dane Sized Crates. Please Note: Many people think their dogs are happier in a Larger Space. Dogs like to feel enclosed as they have control over their area in an unfamiliar environment & feel more protected. Think about dogs who are left outside or in the wild. They sleep in their dog houses or hidden somewhere in tall grasses, bushes or hidden in dens or under structures, you will not see a dog sleeping in wide open areas when in unfamiliar places. Our staff will decide what size Kennel your dog will be most comfortable in. We use crate boarding only for overflow boarding and with clients request or approval only. Clients can bring their own crates if they prefer.
All Boarding dogs have their own water buckets.
Yes. K9 Tailshakers has a 24-hour Fire Alarm and Security Alarm monitoring System with 16 cameras located inside and out, motion sensors and glass breaks throughout the building. We also have a temperature monitoring system that alerts us if there is a change in temperature within the facility.
